Monday 4/29 - Wednesday 5/1

  • Brainstorm and decide on overall approach and individual subjects for the wiki.
  • Discuss key ideas/issues in the novel to be explored through research. Come up with guiding questions or hypotheses.
  • Assign subjects to wiki members.
  • Brainstorm what research needs to be done for the project/individual pages and begin the research process (search online sources for general information [encyclopedias, reliable websites], check library databases for articles and catalog for books).
  • Study novel and decide what evidence from it will be included in the wiki. Take notes and choose passages for discussion/illustration.

Thursday, 5/2

  • Check in with the group about individual and team progress in research and note-taking.
  • Help one another with interpretation of the novel, sources for the research, and linking the research to the book.
  • Consult on design issues, both updating the structure of the wiki and beginning to decide on look, navigation, “bells and whistles” (color palette, images, widgets, links, videos, etc.), and reference style (MLA, APA--or the wiki has a widget for footnotes).
  • Begin drafting wiki pages.
  • Design and begin drafting a home page that will provide an overview to the project.
  • Compose a progress report to be submitted by the end of the day to the D2L dropbox “Wiki Progress Report.” Use the following headings: What has been done? What is yet to be done? What problems/issues have arisen? How will the team deal with them?

Friday 5/3 - Monday 5/6

  • Compose and edit wiki pages. Be sure to assign members to review one another’s work. The wiki is ideal for collaboration, so help each other out with design and writing suggestions, revision help, proofreading, etc.
  • Complete team and individual contributions to the home page.
  • A rough draft of the wiki should be substantially complete by Monday 5/6.

Tuesday 5/7 - Friday 5/10

  • Review the wiki and decide what needs to be developed more, supported better by evidence (both from the novel and secondary sources), rewritten, and edited (for things like clarity, conciseness, coherence). Take these days to revise and spiff up the wiki to make it the best it can be.

In the Days Leading Up to the Final

  • Your team will be assigned another team’s wiki to study and learn from. You’ll be given a rubric to assess the wiki and you’ll be expected to contribute supportive comments to the wiki itself.
